Solution 1: Check all cables connections

Solution 2: Re-Install or Update the Drivers
An I/O device error may also be caused by an out-of-date driver. This error can be fixed by updating or reinstalling a fresh driver. You must check whether your drivers are up to date and compatible with the disk transfer.

Solution 4: Check and Repair the Device through in Command Prompt
1.Select the Command Prompt (Admin) option from the menu by pressing (Windows + X) both keys simultaneously.
2.Allow OS to run the Command Prompt as Administrator, please click Yes.
3.Open a Command Prompt window and type chkdsk G: /f /r /x, replacing G with your drive letter. Be sure to sign in as Administrator.
The I/O device errors on the external & internal hard drive/USB drive/SD card can be fixed by using this option. From then on, you will no longer see the “The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error” message.
Solution 5: Change the drive letter
An I/O device error on an external hard disk can be fixed by changing the drive letter. Here’s how to change your drive letter.
To open Disk Management with administrator privileges, right-click the Start button.
1.Right-click on the volume you want to change the drive letter for on this window. Select “Change Drive Letter and Paths” from the menu that appears.
2. Right-click on the volume you want to change the drive letter for on this window. From the menu, select “Change Drive Letter and Paths”.
3. From the list, select the drive letter you want to change. Then click “Change” to make the change.
The warning message stating that certain programs may not function properly if drive letters are not used may appear. Click “Yes” if you see this message box.
